Festival BeauregardFour days of contemporary music, twenty minutes from the campsite
In early July, the grounds of the Château de Beauregard host the region’s biggest contemporary music festival: several stages, international headliners and tens of thousands of festival-goers, a quarter of an hour from the sea.
Beauregard is a château, wooded grounds above the river Orne and a line-up that brings a good part of the international scene down to Normandy. The festival takes place in early July in Hérouville-Saint-Clair, on the edge of Caen, and draws an audience from all over France. Which leaves the question of where to sleep: accommodation around the city fills up months ahead. The La Capricieuse campsite is about twenty minutes away by road, in Luc-sur-Mer — you go back to sleep by the sea, and wake up facing the beach.

Hérouville-Saint-Clair is reached via the D7 and then the northern ring road of Caen. On festival evenings, traffic around the site is heavy: set off early, or leave the car in Caen and take the shuttle run by the organisers.

The festival takes place outdoors, on grass: bring something warm for the evening and shoes you do not mind ruining. The campsite does not run a shuttle to the site.

A château, grounds and several stages
The site is one of the finest on the French circuit: an 18th-century château, gently sloping grounds and stages set among the greenery, a stone’s throw from the Orne. The audience settles on the grass between two concerts, and despite its size the festival keeps the feel of a large Normandy picnic.
The line-up mixes international headliners, the French scene and new discoveries. For four days, Hérouville-Saint-Clair becomes one of the meeting points of the musical summer.
Sleeping by the sea rather than in town
Beauregard is experienced standing up, late, and accommodation in Caen sells out very early. Twenty minutes from the site, the La Capricieuse campsite offers another way to do the festival: a cottage or a pitch fifty metres from the beach, the heated water park to recover in, and the sea wall of Luc-sur-Mer to clear your head the next morning.
It also works for groups: several units side by side, a terrace to gather on before setting off, and nobody driving across the department at three in the morning.
The first weekend in July goes very early
The festival falls right at the start of the summer holidays, when the Côte de Nacre fills up. Accommodation within half an hour of the site is soon counted: we advise booking as soon as the dates are announced, often several months ahead.
Our cottages and pitches are open from April to early November: the campsite can also serve as a base camp to extend your stay after the festival, between the landing beaches, Bayeux and the Côte de Nacre.
