In October the Côte de Nacre empties and the light changes. The campsite, however, does not close: the water park stays heated, the restaurant serves, the kids' club runs six days out of seven, and the beach is yours.
The 2026 season at camping La Capricieuse runs from 3 April to 1 November, and the 2027 season from 2 April to 7 November: we are not open all year round, but we stay open throughout the French autumn holidays, from 17 October to 2 November 2026 — the fortnight that includes the British October half term. Few campsites in Normandy still cover this period, and it is probably the most pleasant of the year for anyone who dislikes crowds: quiet paths, an empty beach, major sites without queues, and pool water still at thirty degrees. The final week, meanwhile, turns to Halloween.

The campsite is not open all year round: the season ends on 1 November in 2026 and on 7 November in 2027. The French autumn holidays, the same across all three school zones, therefore fall entirely within the season.

The restaurant and bar serve every day, at lunchtime and in the evening, until 1 November; the games room and the kids' club also run until the last day of the season. Nothing closes early.
What a late-season stay changes
A season drawing to a close facing the sea
In October the Côte de Nacre changes character: the days are crisp and bright, the big autumn tides uncover hundreds of metres of foreshore, and the beach, fifty metres from the campsite entrance, empties for good. You walk there in the morning without meeting a soul, fly a kite in the afternoon, and head back to warm up when the wind picks up.
The campsite follows the same rhythm: fewer people on the paths, free sun loungers by the pool, a table you get without booking. For many families, that is precisely why they come at this time of year rather than in August.
Thirty degrees in the water, even in late October
The water park stays heated until the last day of the season, and not only the indoor part: every pool is kept at thirty degrees, the outdoor one included. Outside, the wind may sweep across the beach; in the water, under the timber roof and the palm trees, it is still summer.
Children move from the indoor slide to the waterfalls and the water jets, while parents settle on the massage beds. At this time of year the pools are quiet: you swim in peace, far from the summer crowds.
Heated cottages, and camping still possible
When evening comes you push open the cottage door and it is warm inside: heating in every room, a living area with its corner bench, a fitted kitchen, separate bedrooms and a bathroom. Sleeping two to eight, there is room for the whole family and everything you need to cook a proper dinner. The covered terrace takes care of the rest: afternoon tea, hot chocolate, boots drying off.
The pitches stay open until closing day, with heated washrooms and, on some of them, a private sanitary unit: coming in a tent, a van or a motorhome in October is perfectly possible here, provided you enjoy crisp mornings and sunsets over the Channel.
The restaurant and bar serve until closing day
Many campsites close their services as early as the end of August. Here the restaurant and bar serve every day, at lunchtime and in the evening, until the last day of the season: you can have lunch on the way back from the beach, dine on site on a rainy evening, or have a drink while the children finish their game in the games room.
It is a detail that matters in the late season: when the seafront terraces start to close, there is still a table fifty metres from your cottage.
The kids' club does not close, and Halloween is coming
The kids' club welcomes 5 to 12-year-olds six days out of seven until the end of the season, included in your stay, with no paid registration and no supplement; there is no teen club as such, but activities are specially arranged for teenagers. In the late season the groups are smaller: the activity leaders have time.

All accommodation open until the last day
Many campsites close part of their accommodation from September onwards. Here, all of it stays open until the last day of the season: cottages, the wheelchair-accessible cottage and the pitches.
The autumn half-term holidays remain the most sought-after dates of this period, and many families come back year after year. It is worth checking availability before making your plans.
