Caen twenty-five minutes away, the port of Ouistreham a quarter of an hour, and the sea at the end of the lane: explore the city by day, come back for a swim in the evening.
Looking for somewhere to stay near Caen without giving up the sea? La Capricieuse, a five-star Yelloh! Village campsite, is in Luc-sur-Mer, at the heart of the Côte de Nacre. William the Conqueror’s city, its castle and the Caen Memorial are twenty-five minutes away; Ouistreham, its ferry port and Sword Beach a quarter of an hour. Here you stay in a quiet cottage, swim in water heated to 30 °C, dine on site, and the beach starts fifty metres from the entrance.
Bayeux is thirty-five minutes away. By bike, the coastal greenway takes you to Ouistreham in about an hour.

The tram links the north of Caen to the centre: leave the car at a park-and-ride stop and skip the ring road. Without a car, the line 101 coach leaves right outside the campsite and drops you at the bus station. Ouistreham is the cross-Channel ferry port of the Côte de Nacre, with sailings to Portsmouth. Off the boat, the campsite is fifteen minutes away and welcomes you at any hour: ideal for a first or last night in France, or for a whole holiday without a long drive. Our guide to Ouistreham
The line 101 coach leaves from outside the campsite. By car, allow twenty-five minutes to the tram.
